The illustration's title is 'The Grand Staircase, Hardwicke Grange, near Shrewsbury'. It also names the illustrator as 'E. Risdale Tate, Wandsworth, London, SW' and the recipient as 'F. Bibby Esqre'. Bibby is thought to be Frank Bibby (b. 1857) who owned the property. Edwin Risdale Tate (1862-1922) was born and educated in York, and he was an architect, artist, antiquarian, archaeologist, illuminator, photographer, and graphic designer. Glass plate negative.

Volume containing around 43 paintings, many of locations in York, dated between 1890-1907. The album measures 39 x 29 x 22 cm. The artist is unknown, merely signing themselves ‘TJ’ as well as often providing details of the object of the painting.

Subjects covered include: All Saint's Pavement, Bootham Bar, Clifford's Tower, King's Manor, Merchant Adventurer's Hall, York Minster, York Guildhall, Roman remains in the Mint Yard, St Anthony's Hall, St Helen's Church, St Margaret's Walmgate, the Hospitium (Museum Gardens), Treasurer's House and Tower on city walls North Street.
