The booklet has been made by John Ward Knowles and contains handwritten notes regarding designs and cartoons, glass painting materials, fixing cost of materials, wood trellis and labour. Under each heading, notes have been stuck regarding specific windows and projects, in date order. The booklet itself is made up of cut-down newspapers.

The bundle includes newspaper cuttings and other notes collected by John Ward Knowles and relating to events in the city of Leeds, including obituaries. Also includes two souvenir programmes for the City of Leeds Tercentenary Celebrations, July 1926, and article from Woman's Home magazine entitled 'The Romance of Old China', one programme for the Leeds Musical Festival Album and one exercise book of newspaper cuttings entitled 'Scripture'.

Entitled 'Diagram to show the continuity of design and practice in the York School of Glass Painting, 1399 to 1529', the diagram is in a family tree format, giving names and the dates they were actively working. The diagram was compiled from information in the wills of glass painters, the Freemans rolls and the Fabric rolls of York Minster. Rolled and wrapped in its original packaging.

Exercise book

Exercise book compiled by J W Knowles marked '9 - Glass painting etc'. The volume consists of handwritten notes and printed material, including the technical details of various paintings, notes on glass painting and particular windows such as Appleton Roebuck, St William's Window in York Minster and St Michael le Belfrey, York.

Exercise book

Exercise book compiled by J W Knowles marked '15 - clouds, waves etc'. The volume contains newspaper cuttings and photographs of various storms at sea, as well as handwritten notes on painting seascapes, newspaper cuttings of fishermen and lifeboat men and pencil studies of waves and marine subjects.
