Three bundles originally wrapped in brown paper with the following information written on the wraps: 1) 'Old Deeds belonging to Petergate House, but those in the bundle dated March 1822 are sufficient to show a good title'. Comprises c.34 items including Christopher Vint's will and administration. 2) Bundle with wrapper addressed to 'T.W. Preston, Solicitor, No.2 Stonegate, York.' and in same hand 'Petergate House, Old deeds'. Later hand adds 'Petergate and some Monkgate C17-C18.' 3) Bundle with wrapper written in pencil 'Petergate House Sold- 1875. J.H.Preston'. In ink on wrapper also 'Mrs Agar, Brockfield Hall'. Bundle comprises miscellaneous papers relating to the name of Preston and Agar.

Bundles 1 and 2 include a deed signed by John Carr, the architect as Lord Mayor of York (1770); also messuage in St Crux parish and another adjoining Layerthorpe Postern on the one side and St Cuthbert's churchyard on the other c.1757. Bundle 3 includes a document relating to the Punch Bowl public house (1814) which is also referred to in a document of 1836 (bundle 5). Bundle 4 comprises mainly leases and conveyances. A number of documents concern property held by the Dean and Chapter of York Minster. Two documents of 1833 are conveyances to the New Market Trustees / The Trustees under the New Market Act. Bundle 5 contains documents of 1836 refer to property on the corner of Jubbergate and Silver Street and in St Sampsons Square and Harthwaite Lane.

John Burton of Clifton, yeoman, and Jane his wife, Joseph Burton of Clifton, glasier, and Mary his wife, Richard Burton of York, brazier, and Elizabeth his wife, Matthew Gower of York, tailor and Jane his wife, and Mary Burton of York, spinster, to Sir William Robinson of Newby, Bart. 3½ acres of arable land in Fose Field, Clifton, adjoining the lands of Sir William Robinson on the north and south. The lane called the Horsefaire on the west and Whitecrosse Lane on the east. A fine was to be levied on the land before Easter next. Mary Burton was to seal and execute the deed on reaching the age of 21 years. Conson £42. Signed and sealed by the releasors.
