Biographical history
George Benson was born in 1856. On 24 August 1889 he married Annie Denton. Benson worked in York as an architect, and was heavily involved in the Yorkshire Architectural and York Archaeological Society (YAYAS). He published a number of works on historic buildings in York.

The volume was collated by George Benson and includes sketches and drawings by a number of artists, most notably Edwin Ridsdale Tate. Other artists whose work is included in the volume include Edwin Scott Ridsdale, J W Tate, A J T Ogden, D A Walter and C Triffitt, and engravings by J MacGahey, Francis White and W Harvey.
