Functions, occupations and activities
Carried out the council's responsibility for housing schemes and developments concerning individual dwellings and larger projects such as the Tang Hall estate. It arranged subsidies for house builders, built council properties and oversaw tenancies of council properties. Approval was frequently sought from the Ministry of Health for specific decisions. It also administered improvement grants and mortgages for council properties. It appointed a number of active sub-committees on matters such as planning and building.
