Photographs, slides and additional information relating to libraries in York - primarily City of York Council run libraries, but also including a small amount of information on York Minster Library, National Railway Museum Library and Archives and Naburn Hospital Library. The additional information includes details of opening hours, addresses and building styles.
Created by the Library History Group of the Library Association in response to a number of historic library buildings being demolished or repurposed in the 1990s. Whilst the initiative was originally supposed to be national in scope, funding for the project could not be secured, and the images and information collected were used in other displays and publications instead.

Cromwell House on the right, was occupied by the Bedern Mission. The house was probably built around 1700, but incorporated the timber framing from an earlier building. The house has an unusual design featuring a prominent pedimental gable.
