Photographs, slides and additional information relating to libraries in York - primarily City of York Council run libraries, but also including a small amount of information on York Minster Library, National Railway Museum Library and Archives and Naburn Hospital Library. The additional information includes details of opening hours, addresses and building styles.
Created by the Library History Group of the Library Association in response to a number of historic library buildings being demolished or repurposed in the 1990s. Whilst the initiative was originally supposed to be national in scope, funding for the project could not be secured, and the images and information collected were used in other displays and publications instead.
Framed and glazed portrait (dated 1 May 1844) depicting Henry Vincent, who contested Parliamentary by-elections in York in 1848 and 1852 as a Chartist candidate. Portrait was presented to the London Sentinel Weekly Newspaper.
