The plaque has what appears to be a copper background and the school emblem (now detached from the back board). The plaque reads 'This library was erected by past and present pupils to commemorate the coming of age of Queen Anne Grammar School (1910-1931) and by them presented to the York City Council March 24th 1934.

The letter also questions whether the money needed would be better spent by the Urban Sanitary Board.

The letter concerns the eventual establishment of a Free Public Library in York despite early setbacks.

The invoice came via W. W. Morrell.

The letter was forwarded by W. W. Morrell to the Lord Mayor of York. Also includes a letter from Thomas Hurst to W. W. Morrell regarding the chairman of the Sheffield Free Libraries writing to the York Herald.

Haggerston (Chief Librarian at the Newcastle upon Tyne Public Library) was only able to donate a few books to Morrell's cause, and he could not honour Morrell's requests for library reports as they are his own private property
