It is possible that these images relate to one or more of the windows in York Minster or from churches elsewhere in York, and certainly includes at least one image from the St William window.
Sem títuloThe images are not identified however the numbers on the reverse of some images appear to be panel numbers. It is possible that these images relate to one or more of the windows in York Minster, most likely the St William window.
Sem títuloThe black and white images are most likely from projects J W Knowles and Sons worked on, including St Cuthbert window (York Minster), Wragby Church, St William window (York Minster), St Chad, Lady Chapel windows (York Minster), Parker window (most likely York Minster), Penancer's window (York Minster), Peter de Dene window (York Minster), Bell window (York Minster), Cartmel Fell, Clerestory (York Minster), Nave (York Minster), South Aisle Choir windows (York Minster), Bowett window (location unknown), Great East Window (York Minster), St Saviour's Church East Window, St Martin's Coney Street (window destroyed in the Blitz), St Dennis (Denys) Church, St Helen's church, St Michael-le-Belfrey, glass by Peckitt in Bishopthorpe Palace, Bolton Percy East Window, St Michael's Spurriergate, St Martin's Micklegate, Holy Trinity Goodramgate, All Saint's North Street, Gilling Castle (signature of Bernard Dunninghoff), Merchant Taylor's Hall, Denton in Wharfedale, Great Malvern, St Gyles (Camberwell), Bardwell Church (Suffolk), Saxlingham Nethergate Church (Norfolk), Malvern Priory, Little Malvern, Winscombe (Somerset), Hawsker Church, Deerhurst (Gloucestershire), Wolveden Window (York Minster) and Essars Church. The images are generally details or panels rather than full windows. Also includes details of stained glass techniques and condition, and copies of stained glass window designs from books and secondary sources.
Sem títuloMost of the images are photographic prints created by J W Knowles and Sons and pasted ont blank postcards. Some are identified and include Fountains Abbey, cathedrals in France, Switzerland and Belgium, photographs of York streets and buildings, details from York Minster fabric rolls relating to glass and glaziers, York Minster windows, Great Malvern, St Martin's Church Leicester, All Saint's North Street York, Gloucester Catherdral and others. Many of the images appear elsewhere in the glass plate negative and photographic print collection, however these copies also contain explanatory notes. A large percentage of these images do not contain captions, however they are likely to be of stained glass in York Minster and other churches.
