Kendall (Chairman of the Quaternary Peat Committee of the British Association for the Advancement of Science), Moor Allerton, Leeds (written on B.A.A.S. Quaternary Peat Committee letterheaded notepaper). Kendall is sending two specimens of Haigh Moor coal (from Whitwood Colliery) from his coal cellar, which should together prove the 'growth in place' origin of that coal seam. Kendall also refers to Rev. Fowler's uncle William Fowler, 'a most kindly and gracious personality and a botanist of eminence'.
