Labelled 'Staircase Hardwicke Grange by ER Tate'. This is a detailed illustration of the staircase with a plan in the top right corner. The illustration's title is 'The Grand Staircase, Hardwicke Grange, near Shrewsbury'. It also names the illustrator as 'E. Risdale Tate, Wandsworth, London, SW' and the recipient as 'F. Bibby Esqre'. Bibby is thought to be Frank Bibby (b. 1857) who owned the property. Edwin Risdale Tate (1862-1922) was born and educated in York, and he was an architect, artist, antiquarian, archaeologist, illuminator, photographer, and graphic designer. Glass plate negative.

The photograph is copyrighted to Country Life and is labelled: '6. - Staircase at the Black Swan' with caption: 'Similar work exists in Lady Peckitt's Yard, and behind Mr. Holmes' greengrocery shop in Petergate- formerly the Talbot Tavern'.
