Labelled 'Staircase Hardwicke Grange by ER Tate'. This is a detailed illustration of the staircase with a plan in the top right corner. The illustration's title is 'The Grand Staircase, Hardwicke Grange, near Shrewsbury'. It also names the illustrator as 'E. Risdale Tate, Wandsworth, London, SW' and the recipient as 'F. Bibby Esqre'. Bibby is thought to be Frank Bibby (b. 1857) who owned the property. Edwin Risdale Tate (1862-1922) was born and educated in York, and he was an architect, artist, antiquarian, archaeologist, illuminator, photographer, and graphic designer. Glass plate negative.

This is thought to be the 1727 edition. The map was designed for subscribers and depicts newly-built private houses of select York citizens, detailing the owners' names and addresses. The Mansion House, depicted in the upper right hand corner, is the only public building included. When the map was reissued in 1748, it included five additional architectural illustrations. John Phillips was a geologist who also served as the Yorkshire Philosophical Society's museum keeper and draughtsman. He was famously chased by a bear around the YPS Gardens in 1831. Lantern slide.
