Part of Gray, Dodsworth & Cobb, York solicitors

Affidavit of Jonathan Gray of the City of York, one of the executors named and appointed in the last will and testament of John Robinson Foulis, late of West Heslerton in the City of York. The affidavit recites that probate was granted to Jonathon Gray and The Rev. Christopher Sykes as the other executor on 17 July 1826 when the estate was sworn to be under the value of £16,000 and that Stamp Duty of £250 was accordingly paid on the said probate. The deponent further stated that since obtaining the said probate it had been discovered that too little stamp duty was paid thereon. The sum of £1,676-16s-3d had been discovered as the correct value of the estate. The deponent explains how the error occurred and asks that the probate be duly stamped on payment only of the sum required to make up the duty which ought to have been paid in the first place. The affidavit was sworn before Henry Newton on 6th October 1827.
