Clients were not solely York-based, and the papers relate to a wide geographical area across northern England and London predominantly, including papers on local manors. The collection has been catalogued in the order in which it was found, with bundles of documents catalogued together to maintain the original order. In some cases, this means that the inter-relationship between the documents in a bundle is currently unknown.

Dodsworth Family papers

This collection comprises one volume which contains accounts and legacies relating to various members of the Dodsworth family including Lucy Dodsworth, Amy Dodsworth, Clare Dodsworth, Benjamin Dodsworth, G.P. Dodsworth, E.F. Dodsworth, G.E. Dodsworth and P. Dodsworth. Members of the Dodsworth family were partners in the solicitors firm of Gray and Dodsworth (later Gray, Dodsworth and Cobb) and one of the inserted sheets is a letter to William and Edwin Gray dated 1885.
