All the letters includes details of family life - and death - and local news. Various collected documents relating to York, including a copy of Papal Bull of 1223, public notices, charters, a deed for Archbishop Holgate's school, a notice of survey of River Ouse and a rough draft account of visit of Prince Albert to York in 1838.

This collection contains notes and drawings kept and produced by William White.

Many of these chapbooks are undated, but all appear to be from the first quarter of the 19th century. They were printed and sold in York, and primarily aimed at children and adultsin the city. The chapbooks aimed at children all contain lavish woodcuts as illustrations throughout, and many contain a full Roman printed alphabet and Italian printed alphabet at either the beginning or the end. The chapbooks for adults do not contain illustrations.

The first 72 chapbooks are of a very small format (referred to as Penny Books) whereas the remaining nine are a larger format.

Includes a very extensive collection of correspondence, primarily sent to William Gray Junior as Secretary of the Association. Also includes returns from various regional areas, an address to the York Association, 1781, petitions, publicity materials, resolutions of the Committee, forms of the association, canvassing books and papers for the 1780 and 1784 elections, bills and vouchers and additional papers.

The volumes for 1779 and 1780 are missing.

One volume which contains information about customer 'pledges' made between 1777-1778. Information includes customer names and addresses, dates and types of items pledged, a list of pledged watches, types of clothes and fabrics and the amounts paid.

Volume contains copies of leases of land, quarries and mines in Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire, including the manors of Brompton, Cowick & Snaith, Goathland, Lound (in Nottinghamshire), Rosedale, Snaiton, Tanshelf as well as the bailiwick of Barsetlow, the bailiwick of Tickhill, the bailiwick of Trent, the honour of Pontefract and the honor of Pickering.

The collection currently comprises one three-volume set of Drake's Travels in Italy, written in his own hand, and one two-volume set of Drake's history of York's 'Eboracum' owned by Drake and including handwritten annotations.

Includes published works produced by T P Cooper during his career as a local historian. The publications relate to various aspects of the history of York, including folklore, Dickens, clockmakers and churches. Some of the works are published by local and national printers, whilst other works are in typescript or handwritten form.

The collection of personal and business records of the Swales family, a family Butchers business based in Goodramgate. The earliest document is a Baptism Certificate, which shows the birth of a John Swales in 1853, although the Freemen records mention another John Swales (Butcher) who was apprenticed in 1812.

The main part of the collection features the life of John Thomas Swales, who was born in 1869, and appears to have taken over the family business in 1896. John Thomas became a Methodist Lay Preacher, an influential member of local trade organisations, and was nominated for a vacancy on the Board of Guardians in 1907. The documentation also shows his marriage to Ada Plummer in 1897, and some information on their two children, Hilda Mary (who later became an American citizen) and Thomas, (who carried on the family profession of a Butcher).

At present this collection comprises two typescript copies of his play 'Sounding Brass' about George Leeman.

At present this collection only contains one commonplace book containing newspaper clippings.

Includes research notes on members of the Fairfax family in the United Kingdom, as well as pictures and photographs, wills, census returns, civil registration copy documents, pictures and photographs of villages with Fairfax connections, war service records and papers specifically related to Robert Fairfax. The records were compiled in the 1990s and 2000s, but use various historical sources to create the Fairfax family trees. Also includes some later correspondence relating to specific family queries.

Includes his source material on the Foss Navigation and railway companies and lines, as well as the Leeds and Liverpool canal.

Volumes of handwritten notes about civic officials within York from the medieval period through to the 17th and 18th centuries. The information in the volumes is arranged alphabetically by surname. Also includes transcriptions of Guild Ordinances, and a catalogue of the mayors and bailiffs, Lord Mayors and Sheriffs, the representatives in Parliament and the Recorders and Town Clerks of the City of York.

This collection consists of project job files and original plans for a variety of different projects undertaken by the firm. Due to the lack of an original structure for the collection, this archive has been arranged by project by the archivist, ensuring that job files and plans for the same project appear together in the catalogue structure. The collection has been catalogued using MPLP, meaning that project files do not necessarily appear in a chronological or alphabetical order. Original reference numbers have been retained when known. Please see series level descriptions for more detailed information about each project.

This material includes original case files between 1913 and 1926, and from 1971 to present. There are no surviving case files between 1927 and 1935, and from 1935 to 1971 only summary books exist, giving very basic details of each inquest. All case files have been indexed, but the name index is only publicly-available for inquests held between 1913 and 1926.
