Functions, occupations and activities
The Yorkshire Ouse Sailing Club was founded in 1938 and has a picturesque club house on the site of a former ferry. The club is affiliated to the RYA and runs regular training days during the summer. The instructor team can teach and issue RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 in addition to Powerboat Level 2 and Safetyboat training. YOSC has regular sailing activities on a Wednesday evening and during weekends – there are a number of club events and the club is also host to a number of regional class events.
Members of the club generally sail Enterprise, Streaker, other styles are welcome. The sailing takes place on the River Ouse and the challenging wind conditions this creates makes for interesting sailing. Skill is needed to win a race here as the wind and current both need to be mastered. The club also has an active social scene with a number of Social events organized during the year to complement the Sailing. The club has a close association with Naburn village.
