Nellie Battrick was originally from York, who travelled to India to work as a nanny. Her archives date from the 1930s, when she was employed in India. Her date of birth and death are currently unknown.

The King’s speech was broadcast in Calcutta on 1st March at 9.44pm and Nellie believes it is the one that was aired in Britain at 4pm. Nellie also writes that they have had hailstones 1 inch in diameter in Calcutta that broke windows and injured several people.
