File of legal papers relating 31 Water End, Clifton, previously lodged with the Land Registry, and acquired by the new owner on purchase of the property in 1994.

File includes abstracts of title, conveyances, mortgages, and documents from a land registry search, along with a covering letter, and a numbered list of documents. Documents 13-15 from the list of documents are not included in the deposit.

Also includes an abstract of title to 10 Moorgarth Avenue, Mount Vale Drive in the City of York.

Includes lease (bargain and sale) in consideration of the sum of 5s for one year, dated 24th March 1763, and release (conveyance) in consideration of the sum of £70. The property is said to have previously been in the occupation of John Hall, and of Robert Vail and his wife Jane.

Conveyance from Robert Smith of Clementhorpe, Yeoman, and Christopher Newstead of the City of York, Gentleman (trustee for the said Robert Smith) to Lumley Kettlewell of the City of York, Gentleman. Includes lease (bargain and sale) in consideration of the sum of 5s, dated 10th June 1802, and release (conveyance) in consideration of the sum of £235.

The property is said to have previously been in the possession of John Hall, blacksmith/baker, afterwards of Robert Vail since of Mary Relph and John Taite, late of the said Mary Relph and Sarah Taite and now of the said Sarah Taite and John Harrison. The property includes a dwelling house, garden and appurtenances in Clementhorpe adjoining the site of the late dissolved nunnery of Clementhorpe towards the south, and on a common lane leading to the River Ouse towards the north, as well as new houses built on the property by Robert Smith.

The property in bounded to the south by the wall of the dissolved nunnery, to the north by a common lane leading to the River Ouse, to the east by a house belonging to Edward Turpin, ship carpenter, and to the west by a tenement of the said Lumley Kettlewell.

The property in bounded to the south by the wall of the dissolved nunnery, to the north by a common lane leading to the River Ouse, to the east by a house belonging to Edward Turpin, ship carpenter, and to the west by a lane leading from York to Bishopsthorpe, with gardens and land behind the same.

Transfer of ownership of the property from Frances Whittaker, widow, to John Whittaker, yeoman under bond and conditions for John Whittaker to provide for the support and maintenance of Frances Whittaker during her life time.

Writing on the reverse of the deed shows that 'A memorial of the within written deed was registered at Beverley the Twenty second day of June seventeen hundred and seventy eight at three in the afternoon in book AY page 553 and number 941'.
