Civic Party and External Relations

At present this collection comprises papers on partnerships and twinning, Lord Mayors and Sheriffs, civic ceremonies and royal occasions.

Gilds, fraternities and mysteries

Records of gilds (guilds), fraternities and mysteries. Though not formally part of the Corporation, there were very strong links in terms of membership, activities and enforcement. Copies of gild material can also be found in the register books in the Y/COU/1/4 series.


Records of the freemen of the City of York, pre and post 1835 reform. Includes registers of admitted members, of apprentices, disputes with individuals and the Corporation, papers relating to the management of the common lands known as strays and a wardmote court book.
