This collection comprises files relating to individual projects administered by Rural Action Yorkshire. The files primarily relate to Village Halls, and comprise correspondence, plans and associated papers. Many of the legal papers in this collection are copies of the originals sent to Rural Action Yorkshire.

Records relating to the running of the British Legion branch in York. This includes records relating to administration, financial aid given to members, personal papers for members, as well as printed booklets and pamphlets including information on benefits and the law.

The research notes form a comprehensive card index, and are arranged in the same order as the York volumes were produced. Certain aspects of the city of York, e.g. the bars and walls, appear in more than one volume, therefore in most cases all five boxes will need to be searched. Five volumes of the history were produced, however there are no research notes relating to volume I (Roman York) existing in this collection.

This collection currently comprises one declaration of trust for the Institute.

Includes 23 letters of Sydney John Holmes, as well as eight postcards and two photographs. The entirety was sent to his mother, father and sister between 1917 and 1918 from Ypres, whilst he was serving in the First World War. Also includes a copy of a published book by J E Mackfall, transcribing the letters.

Volumes of handwritten notes about civic officials within York from the medieval period through to the 17th and 18th centuries. The information in the volumes is arranged alphabetically by surname. Also includes transcriptions of Guild Ordinances, and a catalogue of the mayors and bailiffs, Lord Mayors and Sheriffs, the representatives in Parliament and the Recorders and Town Clerks of the City of York.

Documents and research notes compiled by the Skelton History Group to form the Village archive. Records include copies of published and unpublished articles about the village, notes on parish records, wills and census returns. This collection also includes the records of the John Dodsworth Educational Trust, some school of which the Committee managed.

Includes family photographs of Surtees Hornby and relatives, and some landscape scenes. Some of the images have been captioned, but the majority are currently unidentified. All the images were removed from a photograph album.

The collection of personal and business records of the Swales family, a family Butchers business based in Goodramgate. The earliest document is a Baptism Certificate, which shows the birth of a John Swales in 1853, although the Freemen records mention another John Swales (Butcher) who was apprenticed in 1812.

The main part of the collection features the life of John Thomas Swales, who was born in 1869, and appears to have taken over the family business in 1896. John Thomas became a Methodist Lay Preacher, an influential member of local trade organisations, and was nominated for a vacancy on the Board of Guardians in 1907. The documentation also shows his marriage to Ada Plummer in 1897, and some information on their two children, Hilda Mary (who later became an American citizen) and Thomas, (who carried on the family profession of a Butcher).

This collection comprises legal papers for individuals and properties, most likely in connection with clients of the business, as well as receipted household accounts for Mr Teasdale, and accounts for two customers of the businss. In addition, the collection includes a number of boxes relating to the collection of bad debts on behalf of J Terry and Sons Ltd. These personal papers were collected by Henry Tennant as part of his role with York School Board. They include correspondence, annual reports and pamphlets, as well as some material on temperance.

The collection demonstrates how York 2000 went about its business. It also gives evidence of the close personal connections between the various conservation organisations in York and the extent to which the membership of those organisations overlapped.
