This collection consists of one volume - a handwritten autobiography of Oswald Allen's life.

Collection contains a scrapbook of cuttings and postcards relating to the York Historic Pageant of 1909. Also contains the book of the York Pageant, two copies of the York Pageant music and a historic York Pageant souvenir book.

One volume which contains information about customer 'pledges' made between 1777-1778. Information includes customer names and addresses, dates and types of items pledged, a list of pledged watches, types of clothes and fabrics and the amounts paid.

The research notes form a comprehensive card index, and are arranged in the same order as the York volumes were produced. Certain aspects of the city of York, e.g. the bars and walls, appear in more than one volume, therefore in most cases all five boxes will need to be searched. These courses were based on work carried out by the depositor for English Heritgae [now Historic England] revising and rewriting the Statuatory List of Buildings of Architectural and Historical Interest in York, published in the late 1990s.

This collection currently comprises one declaration of trust for the Institute.

Includes 23 letters of Sydney John Holmes, as well as eight postcards and two photographs. The entirety was sent to his mother, father and sister between 1917 and 1918 from Ypres, whilst he was serving in the First World War. Also includes a copy of a published book by J E Mackfall, transcribing the letters.

Volumes of handwritten notes about civic officials within York from the medieval period through to the 17th and 18th centuries. The information in the volumes is arranged alphabetically by surname. Also includes transcriptions of Guild Ordinances, and a catalogue of the mayors and bailiffs, Lord Mayors and Sheriffs, the representatives in Parliament and the Recorders and Town Clerks of the City of York.

Documents and research notes compiled by the Skelton History Group to form the Village archive. Records include copies of published and unpublished articles about the village, notes on parish records, wills and census returns. Also includes some further notes on Overton and various oral history interview transcriptions.

At present this collection only comprises his Survey of the River Ouse.

Includes family photographs of Surtees Hornby and relatives, and some landscape scenes. Some of the images have been captioned, but the majority are currently unidentified. All the images were removed from a photograph album.

The collection of personal and business records of the Swales family, a family Butchers business based in Goodramgate. The earliest document is a Baptism Certificate, which shows the birth of a John Swales in 1853, although the Freemen records mention another John Swales (Butcher) who was apprenticed in 1812.

The main part of the collection features the life of John Thomas Swales, who was born in 1869, and appears to have taken over the family business in 1896. John Thomas became a Methodist Lay Preacher, an influential member of local trade organisations, and was nominated for a vacancy on the Board of Guardians in 1907. The documentation also shows his marriage to Ada Plummer in 1897, and some information on their two children, Hilda Mary (who later became an American citizen) and Thomas, (who carried on the family profession of a Butcher).
