Records medical relief delivered to paupers by the District Medical Officer/s of the York Poor Law Union and later the Public Assistance Committee.

Includes name of pauper; residence; nature of disease; date of relief; and days attended by the medical officer. Also notes if patients were ordered into institutions such as the Workhouse Infirmary or Fever Hospital.

Register of orders obtained by the York Public Assistance Committee. These orders relate to individuals who were living in York but were legally settled elsewhere.

Includes name, type of order, council of settlement, type of relief (e.g. whether institutional or out-relief), date of order, date of expiration and, in some cases, further remarks.

Handwritten minutes of the York Charities Register Committee.

Includes one small bundle of loose inserts from front of volume comprising general correspondence; an agenda; printed Abstract of Accounts for the Micklegate Freemen's Trust, 1938-1939; and signatures of those attending the meeting of 03 Jan 1911.

Summary accounts of monies received by the relieving officer and amounts of relief charged to each parishes/ward.

Note, these records contain very few names of individuals. Individuals are only recorded where their particular case has incurred extra costs.
