Minutes of club meetings, 1818 - 1855, principally concerning proposals and admissions of members and club rules. This section includes a written copy of the club rules from 1818, with later amendments, and a written copy of the club rules from 1825.
Income and expenditure accounts, 1818 - 1833, showing financial transactions principally relating to the payment of fines, but also later including secretary's accounts.
Register of attendance, 1818 - 1855, including lists of members showing their attendance at meetings, and a record of fines and subscriptions paid.

Printed copies of the rules from 1825 have been stuck in the front and the back of the volume. Each copy includes a printed list of members, one of which includes later edits and additions to the list.

A note in the front of the volume records that this was 'supposed to be the 4th volume of the minutes of the York Musical Society'. A printed ticket for the celebration of the anniversary of the society, held in 1796, has been stuck onto the end board of the volume.

The collection contains papers from the society's inception until its dissolution, with a small amount up until 1984. It includes registers of members and society rules as well as finances including details about pensions, sick pay, funds and investments. It also contains miscellaneous documents, many of which concern amendments to society rules as well as correspondence, newspaper cuttings and reports. It also contains a publication by co-founder Catherine Cappe.

York Female Friendly Society

Comprises incoming letters from the Registrar General and other officers of the General Register Office in London to the Superintendent Registrar in York; and outgoing letters from the Superintendent Registrar to the General Register Office.

Includes instructions, memoranda and acts printed by the General Register Office.

Registration

Comprises records relating to the civil registration of births, deaths and marriages. Poor law unions were used as registration districts from 1837, when civil registration was introduced.

Includes the outgoing letterbooks of the Superintendent Registrar; and correspondence between the Superintendent Registrar of York and the Registrar General, London.
