      William Arthur Jagger was born in 1897, the son of Albert and Rose Jagger. In 1920, he married Ethel Cook and they had two children - Irene May Jagger (b. 1920) and Peter Francis Jagger (b. 1925). He died in 1996.

      Jagger was Clerk of Acomb Parish Council until 1st April 1937, when it was incorporated into York City Council, and both he and his wife were members of the Acomb Labour Party. Jagger was also a member of the trade union NALGO. In accordance with their political and social beliefs, the Jaggers made many purchases from the York Co-operative Society, as evidenced by some of the papers in this collection. Jagger was a Methodist, and he and his wife attended many Methodist events.They also contributed to various charities and collections, and had an active social life to the theatre, cinema, and other entertainments in the city. Jagger was also a member of the Christian Socialist Movement and a member of the Society of Friends. He was on the York Education Committee until April 1953. From 1932, Jagger lived at 70 Beckfield Lane. He was a vegetarian, and some of the papers in this collection detail expenses of meals eaten at vegetarian or vegan restaurants in York and Bradford.
