Contexte général
The York Association for the Prosecution of Felons, Cheats etc. was originally formed in around 1790, as a subscription organisation. Members could pay an annual subscription to be supported in cases of their home or business being burgled, items stolen from their person or cases of fraud. The association was ruled by a Chair and Committee, and at least five members had to be present at a meeting in order to sanction reward money. The Association also regularly distributed handbills in the City of York looking for information to support the conviction of offenders, and took out notices in the local press.
