The volume contains newspaper cuttings and photographs of various storms at sea, as well as handwritten notes on painting seascapes, newspaper cuttings of fishermen and lifeboat men and pencil studies of waves and marine subjects.

Exercise book containing additional handwritten notes and newspaper cuttings about Lord Mayors of York not found in KNO/6/2 and KNO/6/3. The volume was originally entitled 'F J Smart: English and French' and the reverse of the book contains what appears to be school French homework.

The letters appear to have been acquired due to the Knowles' involvement in the Journal of the British Society of Master Glass-Painters.
