Histoire administrative

The River Foss Amenity Society was founded on 23rd July 1973 by W K Sessions. The first meeting was held at the Folk Hall, New Earswick, and the group was founded with the aim of focussing attention on practical ways of improving the footpaths and other amenities of the River Foss for the benefit of naturalists, fishermen, ramblers, and local residents.

In 1994 it was agreed to drop the word 'Amenity' from the name, and the society became the River Foss Society.

The Society continues to operate today.

Zone du contenu et de la structure

Portée et contenu

Includes Microsoft Word documents detailing the project background, minutes from a meeting, and results. The 'Permissions' folder contains the donor's gift agreement in PDF format.

The date range for these records (2017-2020) spans from the earliest creation date to the last-modified date. The last-modified dates were inadvertently altered by preservation actions but the original last-modified dates were recovered and are recorded at file level.

Accruals

System of arrangement

File directory is structured as follows:
2020-002>Permissions.

The parent folder (2020-002) contains six files and the 'Permissions' folder contains three files. A metadata folder is also stored inside the parent folder.

Arrangement intervention is level 1 (no intervention by the archivist). The original material has been retained without any intervention by the archives staff. This does mean that the collection may include filenames containing spelling mistakes and duplicate files that were placed in the wrong folder(s) by the creator.
