Parochial, municipal and parliamentary registers of electors. Depending on the extent of the franchise at different periods, these may be found in seperate volumes or combined together. Registers up to and including 2006 are on open shelves in the Archives reading room and do not need to be ordered: Y/COU/6/1, Y/COU/6/2, Y/COU/6/3, Y/COU/6/4. The current electoral roll is found in series Y/COU/6/5 and Y/COU/6/6 and do need to be requested. Different access regulations appy to the edited and full versions, staff will be able to advise on which you should order.

This series contains archaeological reports relating to excavations within the City of York Council area. It is believed that the reports were commissioned by the City Archaeologist as part of the planning process. Work on the excavations was carried out by a number of third party contract archaeologists.

Includes deceased resident files, day / night books, patients medical administration records, respite care patients files, residents accounts and cash movement sheets. Many of the files contain sensitive personal information.

Includes meeting minutes of staff meetings, general correspondence files, files relating to publications, curator's research files, papers relating to the re-branding of the Art Gallery and papers relating to a theft from the Art Gallery.

Royal charters and letters patent granted to the mayor and commonality of the city, inhabitants and gilds. Eleven are damaged and unidentified.

At present this collection comprises records relating to parliamentary and municipal elections. Further historical and modern records will be added as they are catalogued.

Includes paperwork and applications for various civic posts, including Town Clerk, Parks Superintendant, herdsmen of the Knavesmire, Market Superintendant, engineers, Chief Constable, Medical Officer of Health and coroner.

This series of conveyances includes a number issued by the Corporation of York and others issued by third parties, relating to land and premises in the City of York area. Also includes property files such as commercial conveyances, purchases/acquisitions, title enquiries, commercial/business leases, deeds and title documents for various lands owned by City of York Council.

Seals which have become detached from the city charters (see Y/ADM/1/1), and seal impressions.

The central recorded series of admitted freemen. The first volume has been previously known as C/Y [Continues post-Giles]. Records under 100 years old will be restricted under the Data Protection Act.

Includes street renumbering records; and street improvement papers for the following areas: Castlegate and Water Lanes; Jubbergate; Spurriergate and Coney Street; Little Blake Street (Duncombe Place); Heslington Road; Gillygate, Skeldergate and Holgate Road; Monkgate and Layerthorpe.
Note only street improvements undertaken prior to the establishment of the Streets and Buildings Committee (i.e. up to c1890) have been catalogued. Later records relating to street improvements are currently uncatalogued.

Rent receipt books for Gypsy caravan sites

Comprises records relating to the oversight and licensing of slaughter houses and abattoirs.

Comprises files on enquiry into permanent caravan sites for gypsies. Also includes files with details of past temporary caravan sites in York.

Comprises correspondence and associated papers for the York School Dental Service. The papers mainly concern administrative matters such as staffing, statistics, equipment, training, the organisation of the service, and various aspects of dental health. Includes minutes of the Education Committee, some external committees, and printed promotional literature. Contains some correspondence from patients.

Contains records created by the Streets and Buildings Committee and its sub-committees in the course of their business.

Comprises correspondence and associated papers of the Health Committee. An alphabetical index to the files is included in first box. Files have been weeded prior to deposit in the archive.

Registers of complaints received by the Health Department regarding rodents. Entries typically include situation of property; names of owner and/or occupier, nature of complaint and any action taken. Volumes indexed by street name.

Records of vehicle licensing and registration, including motor cars and motorcycles, and heavy vehicles. Some registers combine cars and motorcycles, whilst others contain just one or the other, so more than one volume may need to be consulted to cover the same licence plate or year range. Registers occasionally include cancellation and transfer dates, plus occasional inserted correspondence.
